8 Performance

8-1 Notes on Performances

  1. All performances will be open to the general public.
  2. As a general rule, performances will not be interrupted. However, if a performance exceeds the designated time limit, or if special circumstances mean that the performance will in any way impede the judging process, the Chairperson of Jury can interrupt that performance.
  3. If the Chairperson of Jury gives an instruction to interrupt the performance according to the rule above, the contestant must cease the performance immediately.
  4. A part of your performance piece may be cut because of time constraints.
  5. All performances shall be done by memory except for the commissioned piece and the piano quartet in Round 3.
  6. The contestant may be disqualified if the performance time is less than or exceeds the designated time in Round 1.
  7. If you wish to change your performance pieces which you stated in the application form, notify the change to the TIPC Office either by E-mail or a written document (info@tipc.jp or FAX:+81-87-812-5584) no later than January 15, 2022.
    The Request needs to be approved by the Office.

8-2 Order of Performance

  1. The performance order for contestants will be determined by lottery during the Contestant Orientation. The Chairperson of the Competition Promotion Committee will draw lots at random.
  2. Contestants who cannot perform in the order specified will be disqualified.
  3. The order may be changed when the Chairperson of Jury deems it necessary to do so.

8-3 Piano Selection

  1. Contestants may play all pianos specified by the TIPC Office in order to select the piano.
  2. Contestants are allowed to change the piano which will be used for the subsequent round within one (1) hour after the result announcement of each Round. Please note that the contestants can not try the piano this time.

8-4 Practice Time, etc.

The following opportunities for practice will be provided to contestants free of charge during the competition. The practice time will be as follows.

  1. If contestants wish to practice on the day of registration, the TIPC Office will prepare a room to a maximum extent but it might not be possible depending on the venue.
  2. Four-hour practice per day in a room equipped with a piano from the day of Orientation. Four hours or more after Round 2 up to the Final depending on the venue.
  3. Contestants will have one practice with the string players for Round 3, which will be within 90 minutes in principle. Contestants will have a dress rehearsal before the performance.
  4. Finalists will be able to practice on a piano in a room designated by the Office from the day after Round 3 until the final day of the performances in scheduled time slots.
  5. Contestants will have one practice with the orchestra for the Final, which will be within 90 minutes in principle (including the discussion with the conductor). Contestants will have a dress rehearsal before the performance.

8-5 Appointment Time

  1. Contestants shall arrive in the designated place in the venue at the time appointed by the Office Director.
  2. If the contestant fails to arrive at the designated time, he or she can not perform at the appropriate round. When the contestant fails to arrive due to inevitable reasons, the Chairperson of the Operating Committee will discuss with the Chairperson of Jury and may accept to perform if he or she wishes to do so.

8-6 Winners' Concert

Finalists will be required to perform in the Winners’ Concert at the Award Ceremony venue. However, the performance fee will not be paid.
