The Judging

Judging Format

The competition will be divided into the initial selection round, the preliminaries (Rounds 1-3), and the Final.
The initial selections will be judged using CD and other materials provided by the applicant.
The preliminary rounds and the Final will be open to the public.

Judging


  • The results of all evaluations will be announced on the web-site. Each contestant's results will be made public
  • The judges will have no contact with the contestants between Round 1 to Final. This will not apply to any contestants who have been eliminated from the competition at an earlier stage
  • The judges’ decision is firm, there will be no appeals, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the results.

In 2006, in commemoration of the 250th year since Mozart’s birth, Tsutsumi was honored to conduct one of the Mozart - Da Ponte Operas “Don Giovanni” at Teatro Erve de Milano on the very day of Mozart’s birth, January 27th. Now he is Music Director of Royal Chamber Orchestra / Royal Metropolitan Orchestra, Azusa Chamber Orchestra and Shizuoka Symphony Orchestra. Also he is Professor of Toho Gakuen School of Music, Music Director of Asami Maki Ballet Tokyo as well as the Inoue Ballet Foundation, and Laureate Conductor of Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra. Moreover, he was Music Director of the 1st Takamatsu International Piano Competition.

In addition to her concert career, she has been serving on the jury of Valsesia Musica International Piano Competition and Cantu International Orchestra & Piano Competition in Italy. She was a professor of Toho Gakuen Graduate School from 1999 to March 2008, and now is a visiting professor at Kurashiki Sakuyo University and at Shobi University Graduate School. Besides, she is an advisor for the Kurashiki Cultural Promotion Foundation and a committee member of Young Praha Music Festival, and she received Fukutake Cultural prize in 2005 with Ko. She was the Chair of the Jury at the 1st Takamatsu International Piano Competition in March 2006. Her recent publication: “Pleasure of Ensemble” (Shunjusha publishing company), “If I have Music...” (Kibito Shuppan, 2009). Year 2009 was the 40th anniversary from her debut.

Susumu AOYAGI

He started producing a series of recitals featuring Liszt,“The Room with Liszt.” He has performed with various renowned orchestras, and held numerous chamber concerts with famous artists both here and abroad. He is currently Associate Professor of Piano at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and Guest Professor at the Senzoku Gakuen College of Art.

Masanori AOYAMA

He is currently an exclusive arranger of the Wakaba Ensemble and an SPICA Trio member. He has spent hectic days arranging a wide range of pieces such as ensembles, contemporary music, commercial music, film music and also performing as a pianist with mainly composing and arranging. The commissioned piece “YASHIMA” for the 1st Takamatsu International Piano Competition was composed by him in March 2006.

He performed regularly on “NHK Symphony Hour”, the NHK TV program, for 13 years until March 2009. Shinichiro Ikebe is currently Professor at the Tokyo College of Music, Director general of the Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall and Music Director of the Tokyo Opera City.

She also has a great variety of recordings. “Schubert: Piano Sonata No. 21”, released in 2008, won the Music Pen Club Japan Award as the Best CD of the Year. Ikuyo Kamiya is currently Professor at the Kyoto City University of Arts.

She has been on the jury at the international competitions such as International Schubert-Competition and also has been conducting summer workshops in Europe. She is an artistic director of Festival and Master Classes in Moulin D'Ande, France. Currently she is a professor at the Anton Rubinstein International Academy in Dusseldorf. Also she has many CDs, DVDs, Radio and TV recordings.

Since 1997, he has been a professor of piano at the Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. In 1998 he was awarded the title of Professor by the President of Poland. A jury of the 16th International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition which will be held in October 2010.
