Do I have to pay the competition fee when I apply to the Initial Selection?
A.15
You don't have to pay the competition fee when you apply to the Initial Selection.
Competition fee; 20,000 yen should be paid by a person who has passed the Initial Selection and participates in the competition.
I am trying to apply for the competition and submit application using online.
However, the banner on the website cannot access.
Please let me know if there is another way to apply for the competition by online.
A14.
The possible reason why you cannot access is the security setting (enhanced protection mode) of your browser. To set this properly:
Open IE on desktop (not metro), press the setting icon on the right top and open "internet options "
open "Advanced" tab, locate the "security" section among all the settings, and enable "enhanced protection mode", reopen IE and it will be fine.
Any other possibilities are that JavaScript or cookie is disabled or the browser version is old. Changing or upgrading the browser might solve the problem, so I recommend to try that.

I have just recorded the two etudes, but just realised now that the camera needed to be fixed. Unfortunately the recording was done by a handheld camera. Would it still be okay or is it necessary to rerecord it again? Here is an example of how it was recorded.
A12.
It would be fine if the recording condition is like the one in the link. However, please note that, if your name or anything that can identify you is indicated in the recording, the part where it is visible will be excluded from judging or it would be possible that you will be disqualified.
It is the time limit at each appraisal stage, but the time limit is the time from going up to the stage to getting off? Or did you add only the time actually played?
Also, if the time is exceeded, will it affect the review?
A11.
At each appraisal stage, measurement starts from the first note of the performance.
Please note that it may be disqualified if the performance time exceeds the prescribed time.
When you write "Apart of your performance piece may be cut because of time constraints" (see here: http://www.tipc.jp/4th/english_guideline06.html ), do you mean, that repeats are at the discretion of the performer or something else?
A10.
For Round 1 and 2, your performance time is specified. If your performance is longer that, it may be stopped. However, the repetition is at your discretion.
There is written at the answer to the question Q4: Round 2 (B), that you “strongly recommend you to play the original versions” (see: http://www.tipc.jp/4th/english_faq01.html ). Does that mean that you do not recommend for including to the repertoire many Liszt’s works, such as his transcriptions of Schubert’s songs S.558, S.560, S.565, for example, or his “R?miniscences de Don Juan, S.418”, “ Sarabande and Chaconne from Handel's Almira, S.181” and so on?
A9.
It would be all right to play the transcription but we still strongly recommend the original version.
I read in the rules of some competitions who are members of World Federation of International Music Competitions that if you won some short time ago 1st or 2nd Prize at the competition member of Wold Federation of International Music Competitions, you don't have to pass through the video-preliminary round, just to send a confirmation of winning the prize. Few days ago I won 2nd Prize at the International Piano Competition in the memory of Vladimir Horowitz in Kiev which is member of the Federation. Could you please give me an answer, should I send a recording for applying in a normal way to your competition or could I send a confirmation diploma of winning this prize and apply without sending a video?
A8.
The Takamatsu International Piano Competition requires all applicants to send the video for the preliminary selection. Therefore, please send your recorded performance to us as instructed in the application guideline.
I was wondering if it was possible to play Stravinsky's Firebird transcribed by Guido Agosti in round 1(one piece composed after 1900)?
A7.
Regarding your inquiry about Stravinski's Firebird, it is possible to play it.
Can I send the mp4 / mts ?format videos for preselection?
I don't get how to send dvd-format video online.
A6.
We are afraid that we are not accepting a mts format. We accept a mp4 format though. However, please note that the sound quality will be different in the preselection.
For the preselection recording is just only two etudes? one of chopin and the other of another style? You dont need any other works?
A5:
As for the preselection, please record and send one piece from (A) and one piece from (B), which will be two pieces in total.
If there is any unnecessary information such as your name appears on the screen when the DVD is played and other pieces are recorded, the DVD will be excluded from the preselection.
A4:
We strongly recommend you to play the original versions.
In English Round 1 (C) states “One piece composed after 1990” but the Japanese version does not specify as one piece. I am wondering which is correct.
A3:
We are sorry for the confusion. The Application Guideline is prepared in Japanese, English, and French. If there is any inconsistency or conflict between them, the Japanese version will always prevail.
Therefore, the English version should be “one or multiple pieces composed in and after 1900” (p. 18) and the French “Une ou plusieurs pièces composées à partir de 1900” (p. 30).
For a sonata in Round 2 (A), is it possible to omit the repetition?
A2:
Yes, it is possible.
Is it possible to play pieces composed by different composers? Is it also possible to play multiple pieces composed by a certain composer?
A1:
It is possible provided that the performance does not exceed the required time limit.
